Whaler

This smaller veteran of the Gulf Shore condo community was built back when the area started blossoming as a vacation destination. Built in 1985, this staggered complex is a mix of two-bedroom and three-bedroom units ranging in size from 900 square feet to 1,200 square feet. The building is 7 stories tall with a total of only 24 units. Modest-sized kitchens were not originally built with granite countertops but may have them depending on renovation efforts. Kitchens may be part of an open floor plan that includes a living room with sliding doors to a private balcony. A handful of units look out directly on the beachfront while most have balconies with east-facing views.

A spacious pool with a sun deck faces the sugar sands of the Gulf of Mexico. Other amenities at Whaler include a barbecue area and covered seating areas. A two-car maximum is available in the uncovered parking area and the property is lightly landscaped. One of the advantages of being one of the first condos in the area is location. The Whaler complex is located a little over half a mile east from the intersection with Highway 59, also known as the “T.” The condominium complex is among a number of other condos and single-family vacation homes as well as a few restaurants and retail stores. To the east of the Whaler is one of the larger Gulf Shores properties, Lighthouse condominiums and to the west is the Gulf House.
